Volunteer Program
Interested in becoming a Hospice Volunteer ?? Whether you have lots of spare time or just an hour, we would love to have you !! Volunteers are trained for many different tasks. From patient and family care, office help to fundraising and speaker's bureau.Training entails seven, three hour sessions, and are held in the main office. A team of nurses, social workers, volunteers and various specialized team members conduct these sessions.Who are Hospice Volunteers??? The 400,000 Hospice volunteers at work in Hospices throughout the United States are an essential part of the Hospice philosophy of care which recognizes that dying is not just a medical event but a personal one as well. These volunteers are important members of an interdisciplinary team working to "de-institutionalize" the dying experience and provide a more humane system of care for the dying and their families. In fact, Federal law requires that at least 5% of patient care hours be provided by volunteers.
Volunteers are the heart of HOSPICE!! You can become a part of our team in many ways such as: Patient and Family Care - Assist with patient and family needs through respite and family support. Your support could be directly for the patient or giving family members a break, providing help with running errands and housework or lending emotional support.Office Helper - Copy, file and assist with general office tasks. Help out with quarterly newsletters, mailings and greeting guests.Fundraising Specialists - Plan and coordinate events throughout the year. Become involved in our Annual Gala, Run/Walk, Golf Outing, Tree of Remembrance Celebrations or Cookie Walk ! Speaker's Bureau - Enjoy speaking to a group?? This role is for you ! Speak on behalf of Hospice at local civic groups and churches on a variety of topics. Assist with health fairs and community presentations.
